Mother Jones editors expose federal drug czar’s lies.
Drug War Politics, Law, Leaders and Voices, United States Federal Government December 17th, 2009Ever wonder why the same lies are repeated over and over by the our federal drug czar, the head of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP)? Well in 1998, Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and Bob Barr (R-Ga.) created a Congressional Mandate to codify the government’s opposition to attempts to decriminalize or legalize marijuana, or to make cannabis medically available. The drug czar must also oppose attempts to fund research which would make legalization of medical marijuana possible on a federal level. Wow! No wonder we all leave those CNN interviews with the drug czar shaking our head at the obvious disparity between what doctors, patients, police officials, and even members of our own state governments say in support of the efficacy of medical marijuana, and the blanket statements from the federal drug czar against any use of marijuana, comments which seem based in ignorance and fear. The drug czar is simply playing a role, and Mother Jones exposes the czar as yet another federal government official who wears no clothes.
